“When you find something you love, be sure to share it!”
The Brownsboro Village Garden Club is a group of residents who share a love of nature and gardening. The objective of the Brownsboro Village Gardening Club is to restore, improve and protect the quality of the environment in Brownsboro Village thru education and action in conservation and civic improvement.
There are so many reasons to join:
- To learn something new
- To benefit the community
- To participate in club events
- To soothe your soul
- To stay active
- To unite people of all ages
Membership is open to all residents of Brownsboro Village.
Commissioner Maryellen Howley and Shannon Miller are the organizers as of July 2023.
Our primary focus is on education. Based on the concepts highlighted in the book, “Nature’s Best Hope” by Douglas Tallamy, we believe that we can help save the world in our own yards!
Our purpose is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, learning from one another and from experts we will invite to speak. Practical hands on activities, swapping plants and cuttings will enhance our pollinator gardens – feeding our butterflies, bees and birds.

“LET FOOD BE THY MEDICINE AND THY MEDICINE, THY FOOD” – quote from Hippocrates
HEALTHY HERBS AND PLANTS FOR OUR GARDEN
We planned to discuss healthy herbs and plants for our gardens in February, but our speaker returned from vacation with COVID. We cancelled our meeting. We want to share this information – it’s NOT medical advice. Adding these to your garden is easy and reportedly boosts your immune system. Never mind if you don’t cook, you can add to your take out meals too. Sprinkle fresh leaves on your eggs, pasta, pizza, etc. It’s easy with an herb scissors!
GARLIC: May help you live longer! Its rich in VitaminC, B6 and manganese. Garlic reportedly protects against the common cold. Just mince a few cloves for your salad dressing. We are going to have garlic fall planting directions. (See attached article)
Green onions – rich in Vitamin C and Vitamin K – can be grown on your kitchen counter!
Tomatoes– tiny tomatoes easy to grow in a pot too! Incredible source of vitamins and minerals.
PARSLEY: It’s more than a garnish! Parsley is an excellent source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and iron. Easily grown in a pot from seeds, it may prevent UTIs and kidney stones. (See attached article)
THYME: Choose fresh thyme leaves for superior flavor. Thyme tea is believed to boost your immune system, improve your digestion, soothe colds and coughs. It can have a calming effect on your nervous system, helping to reduce stress and tension. Just put several sprigs in boiling water, steep for 5-8 minutes and strain. It grows easily from seeds in a pot or your sunny garden.
